The Egyptian Transport and Commercial Services Company S.A.E. was established in December 1973 under Egypt’s open door policy with regard to private enterprises. However, its transport activities and experience date back to 1939 as a continuation to GAMAL EL DIN LEHETA & CO.

The original company was nationalized in 1964 when it was one of the biggest companies in EGYPT offering shipping agency, tourism agency and other transport services. EGYTRANS was originally established in 1973 as a limited liability company with a capital of EGP 10,000. It is now a corporation with capital of LE 156,062,500 and annual turnover of LE 190 million. Since its inception it has grown into a true leader in the transport field in Egypt with three hundred and fifty employees and eight branches in strategic locations close to the country’s main ports, airports and transport centers.

Barwil Egytrans is a joint venture between EGYTRANS and the Wilhelmsen Group, one of the leading shipping agents in the world handling in excess of 50,000 port calls globally from 2200 ports in 116 countries. Wilhelmsen Ships Service (previously Barwil Unitor Ships Service) is headquartered in Oslo and operates a network of national based companies organized into four main regional groups. Barwil Egytrans falls within the Africa Middle East & Black Sea regional group, which is headquartered in Dubai.
Barwil Egytrans Shipping Agencies is an Egyptian registered company and is a fully licensed shipping agent since 1996 when the Egyptian government first permitted foreign agents to enter the market. Barwil Egytrans management is all located within Egypt and is exclusively responsible for all activities in Egypt with a complement of about 200 staff in total, located in the Alexandria Head office, Port Said, Suez, Damietta and Cairo.
The company currently handles about 2000 vessel appointments in Egypt per annum. Under the guidance of an ex-patriate General Management and with a very experienced local operations team, the company has achieved an established track record of quality performance in Suez Canal transit agency, Port Call agency, Liner Logistics (agents for Norasia Line) and Marine Service Provision for almost all vessel types. EGYTRANS owns 30% share of Barwil Egytrans.
